BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WALT DISNEY CORPORATION
The Walt Disney Corporation was founded in 1923 when founder Walter "Walt" Disney and his brother Roy Disney started creating entertainment. With the original company being named The Disney Brothers Studio, Walt and Roy created many classics such as Steamboat Willie (1928) and The Lucky Rabbit cartoons “Trolley Troubles" (1927). With Steamboat Willie, the Disney brothers introduced the beloved couple, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Disney brothers kept the classics coming when they released their first feature-length animated film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", in 1937. One year after the Disney brothers released Snow White, they moved their studio to Burbank, CA from the previous location in Los Angeles. Then the brothers got involved in the financial field when they issued their first stock under the name Walt Disney Productions in 1940. With the first step being the financial field, they didn’t just stop there. The Walt Disney Productions formed the Walt Disney Music Company in 1949, opened up their first amusement park, Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, in 1955, and then later opened up five more theme parks all over the world becoming a global phenomenon. Besides opening up theme parks, the Disney brothers created many more classic films before Walt's death in 1966 and then Roy's death in 1971. With both of the original founders gone, the Walt Disney Corporation went under many different leadership changes to get to the current CEO and President Bob Iger. Under the leadership of Iger, the Disney franchise has grown tremendously and will continue to grow through more theme parks, classic films, television, and the consumer products.
